Choirs

Good Shepherd’s choirs of children and adults lead and interact with congregational singing, sing portions of the liturgy which it is impractical for the entire congregation to sing, enrich our celebration of the liturgy with appropriate offerings of beauty, and foster musical growth, spiritual formation, community-building, and an attitude of service among the choristers.

Choir at North Loop Apartments Christmas party

The Good Shepherd Choir
exists foremost to lead our parish in the worship of God through the liturgy of the Church. It is a skilled and committed group of singers who strive for excellence; it is also a place for learning. It is open to individuals high school age and above who have some knowledge of music and who are able to match pitch and blend vocally. The Choir sings at most 9:00 am Sunday Eucharists (once a month at 11:30 am instead) and the services of Principal Feasts, Fasts, and Holy Week; and rehearses Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.

The Evensong Choir
is devoted to the singing of Choral Evensong on the second Sunday of the month during the program year. The Choir’s repertory focuses on plainsong and Anglican choral literature from the Tudor era to the present. The Evensong Choir rehearses Wednesdays from 6:45 to 7:30 pm; its members are drawn from the Good Shepherd Choir.

The Summer Choir
is a hearty invitation to all singers of whatever experience level to sing in the choir, with music chosen accordingly and without the Wednesday night commitment. The Summer Choir rehearses in the Choir Room Sundays at 9:00 am, and sings at the 10:00 am Eucharist, from June through August.

The Chamber Choir
is made up of our Choral Scholars with occasional guests, and sings regularly at the 11:30 am Sunday Eucharist.

Children

The Primary Choir lining up in procession

The Children’s Choirs of Good Shepherd welcome all who love music. Our Choirs provide music experiences that tap into the development of the mind, body, and spirit. Younger students work on finding their singing voices through games emphasizing pitch, tempo, and dynamics. Older students further develop their singing voices with emphasis on expressiveness of the music literature, learning to read music notation, and learning about the liturgy of the Church. The ability to read or read music is not required for joining!

Junior Choir
is designed to provide musical training for older children or those with more singing experience. It sings once a month at the 9:00 am Sunday Eucharist during the program year.
